In 2023 I wanted to support the growth of Junior Girls Golf so I decided to pair forces with my best friend Keri Moffat , who is the Director of Instruction at Mayfair Lakes and Assistant Coach of UBC Women's golf team. Keri coaches and instructs an amazing program for junior girls' golf at her facility. With the support of the women from Birdies and our clients combined we have come together to give girls access to golf, and be taught by women!
One of our initiatives with Birdies Babes Golf was to offer my students a chance to play golf with me as a way to learn the game and connect with other women in the community. Each round played, I looked after the green-fee and lesson tips but in return I asked participants to donate the equivalent of the green-fee or more into supporting a young girl to golf in a GoFund Me page. This donation made was able to provide a girl with new golf clubs, a hat and a series of lessons to learn to play golf in Keri's junior girls program.
In partnership with Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Greater Vancouver, we asked for their services to help find girls to try golf through their mentoring initiatives. This also was a way for a mentee and a match to explore the wonderful game that golf can give back and it was a fun new experience for a girl who may not have discovered golf to give it a try.
I can't wait to see how this program will evolve, and how golf can shape a young girls journey in sport!
Thank-you for supporting our initiatives!!
